Audi FIS World Cup in Jasna Unveils Winning Trophies

The January event under Chopok attracts both spectators and Slovak companies, with Nike announced as the general partner.

(BRATISLAVA, November 28, 2023) - In the giant slalom, the tenth position was secured, and in the slalom, a return to the podium, falling just short of the American Mikaela Shiffrin. The current results of Slovakia's top skier Petra Vlhova during the races in Killington, USA, on the last weekend of November, serve as the best invitation to the January round of the Audi FIS World Cup in alpine skiing, scheduled for January 20 and 21, 2014, in Jasna, Slovakia.

In a new timeframe and every three years?

While three years ago, the competition took place in March, this time, the world elite will measure their strengths under Chopok at the end of January. Martin Paško, the president of the Slovak Ski Association (ZSL), claims that this is a positive shift. "It is not a coincidence that we managed to secure the January date. The quality of climatic conditions is always top-notch in January. It is real winter. By March, you can already feel spring, and then enormous effort is required to have the slope prepared completely," says Paško. The association's head added that the aim is to bring the World Cup races to Jasna every three years. "Economically, it works out for us for such a significant event, like the World Cup," he admitted.

Jiří Trumpeš, the chairman of the organizing committee of the World Cup in Jasna, had previously informed that tickets for the event sold out in record time. Preparations for this world championship are being organized within a tight time frame. This is confirmed by his statement: "We had only three-quarters of a year to organize the event, but with the full commitment of all the resort's staff and our partners, we have prepared an event on such a scale that Jasna has not experienced before. This puts even greater pressure on the economic aspect of the event and the need to fulfill the budget. We managed to cover a small part of the costs from ticket sales; everything else relies on the organizers and partners. That's why we appreciate the support of every sponsor because without their help, the event simply could not take place."

Berger: Nike and Skiing Belong Together

The organizational team of the Audi FIS World Cup in alpine skiing, Jasna 2024, today also introduced the event's general partner, Nike.
"Slovakia will become the global capital of women's skiing in January. We are very pleased that the World Cup, with the contribution of Nike, is returning to Jasna. Nike and skiing belong together. For the fourth season as a general partner, we stand by our phenomenal skier Petra Vlhova. Today, the brand 'Peťa is skiing' is known to every sports fan and is associated with our brand 'Nike is betting.' So, I believe that the races in Jasna will become memorable and will be a great advertisement for Slovakia worldwide," wishes director and CEO Roman Berger.

Signal to Other Sports

Many Slovak companies have also shown interest in the event. "I am glad that we managed to retain the right to sell advertising space in the World Cup. We played the right card. Today, we sit here, and behind us, you can see many Slovak companies that supported this event. The fact that we have the World Cup in Slovakia supported by Slovak brands is a clear signal to other sports," says event marketing manager Peter Pukalovič.

"Companies have decided to trust us even though these times are not the easiest. We appreciate it very much. It is proof that when we create a good and quality product, we can finance the event from Slovak companies," he claims. Pukalovič also thanked Roman Berger, the CEO of Nike, for supporting Petra and for allowing them to support Slovak skiing with such a general partner. "For supporting Petra and for giving us the opportunity to support Slovak skiing with such a general partner. I believe that we will enjoy the World Cup, and a beautiful sports experience awaits us," wishes Pukalovič.

After the Pope and the Queen, Trophies for the Skiers too

The best female skiers in Jasna can also look forward to beautiful trophies from the workshop of the world-renowned artist Gordana Glass. Her works have already been received by real celebrities during their visit to Slovakia, such as Pope Benedict XVI and Queen Elizabeth II of Britain, for whom she made a glass jewelry box adorned with gold and platinum.
